Dr. Robert Sofarelli
Dr. Sofarelli is originally from Long Island, NY and attended Walt Whitman High School in Huntington. Upon graduation, he attended Nason College; a small liberal arts school in Southern Maine, and graduated in 1967 with honors in the top 10 of his class with a Bachelor of Science degree. In September of 1967, he entered Cornell University school of veterinary medicine in Ithaca, NY. During his four years at Cornell he received numerous awards and was inducted into the Phi Zeta Honor society for Veterinarians. He was fortunate enough to be accepted for employment at Cornell Small Animal Clinic and worked there for his entire four years at school, gaining immeasurable experience in medicine and surgery. Graduating in 1971 with honors, he then moved to Glens Falls, NY to start his career at the Glens Falls Animal Hospital. In 1973, he and his family moved to Saratoga Springs to build and open the Saratoga Veterinary Hospital. Over the years, Dr. Sofarelli has been involved with many civic and charitable organizations in the Saratoga Area, such as Rotary, Chamber of Commerce, Gloversville Saving and Loan, Wesley, Saratoga Hospital, YMCA and the National Racing Museum to name a few. He is particularly proud of his 43 year membership in Rotary and being President in 1992-1993 and receiving the George Harris Award. In 1984, he was elected President of the CDVMS, our local Veterinary Association, and in 1988 was elected to the NYSVMS executive board, representing the CDVMS. In 1999, he was elected President of the NYSVMS. In his spare time, Dr. Sofarelli enjoys traveling with his wife, horse racing, NASCAR, coin collecting and gardening.
